Late or Right on Time?

So, I got the house decorated, presents bought or made–and wrapped (albeit after midnight on Christmas Eve)–the fudge made, everyone had Christmas PJs, and Santa came. We had church on Christmas Eve, lunch on Christmas Day. We visited family and neighbors. What I didn’t do was mail the Christmas cards.

I ordered them. They arrived. I got them–most of them–addressed. And they sat on the kitchen counter until today. Thankfully, they say something about the wise men, so I’m figuring if they get to our loved ones by Epiphany, we’re safe this year, but I’ve felt so guilty about not getting the cards out before Christmas.

Then I started thinking about why we really celebrate Christmas. It isn’t just for one day. It isn’t even just one season. The wise men saw the star that heralded the king’s birth and then left to find him. It took them months–or years–by some accounts. So I’m thinking I’m safe in mailing a few days late this year…

The caption on the card says, “The Wise still Seek Him.” I’m praying that I will be wise this next year. That I won’t let the clock dictate how much or how long I search for Him.

And next year, I’m ordering my cards in August.
