1 cup butter, margarine, or Crisco
3/4 tsp soda
3 cups sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
6 eggs
1 cup sour cream
3 cups flour
1 & 1/2 tsp vanilla,
lemon or almond ext.
Grease tube cake pan. Sift flour, soda and baking powder together several times. Separate eggs and beat whites until stiff but not dry. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks and beat well. Add flavoring. Add flour alternately with sour cream. Fold in egg whites. Bake 1 & 1/2 hours in 325 degree oven. Cool about 10 minutes before removing from pan.
This cake is definitely an old-fashioned pound cake. It’s extremely rich! I can remember eating this pound cake while the grown-ups had coffee around the table in my great-grandmother’s kitchen when I was a little girl. She was an amazing woman…for more about her, visit Strong Women, Brave Stories next Tuesday!
