Brain Mush

It’s foggy outside today, really foggy, so much so that I could barely see the pool from the back door when I got up. I think that’s the way my brain looks like on the inside. Thoughts that should string together in some kind of sense are wandering around bumping into each other and giving me a headache.

I’m finishing Smoke Screen, due out in January, so I have a really close deadline. I’ve had deadlines for revisions before, but this is my first book deadline. I’ve got laundry hidden in every closet and dishes piled in the sink. My husband calls every night to ask if he’s picking up chinese or pizza (good man). There’s definitely a reason it’s called a deadline, and I’m pretty sure it’s because if anybody messes with me while I’m working, they’re dead.

I’m guessing after I get the manuscript in the mail to my editor next week that someone’s going to have to peel me off the sand at the beach, because I’m not moving voluntarily.

Hang in there, Steph. Isn’t this how diamonds are made? Water, sand and lots of pressure? Now if you could just get those editors to throw in an extra thousand years on that deadline….

Oh, come on, you’re having a blast. This is the dream…what you were waiting for…
    :-)
And in the end, tongue out of cheek, it really is worth it.

I told my daughter the same thing the other day after 12 hours in the same chair with the computer glued to my lap. “You know this is what I dreamed of all those years.” She just gave me that look that teenagers seem to automatically inherit and said, “You know you love it.”

Yeah, I do. :) Besides, I really like Chines AND pizza.
