This week I’m trying the Colombian Especial from Newman’s Own Organics. You already know I like organic and Newman’s products tend to be good, so it seems like a good choice. There are several different Newman’s coffees to choose from: Special Blend, Breakfast Blend, French Roast, and Colombian Especial.

From the package, Colombian Especial is: A medium roast, deliciously balanced with hints of caramel and walnuts.

The good: Not a hint of bitterness–this is a sweet, balanced coffee.

The not-so-good: There’s nothing really outstanding about this coffee. It doesn’t have the richness that I’ve come to expect from really premium beans. I’d expect the aroma, with that hint of caramel, to be apparent as I’m grinding, but it really isn’t.

Final thoughts: This is a really decent selection. If you can get it at a reasonable price at your local store (and I do occasionally see it on sale) then it’s definitely worth a try. It’s not my favorite, though, so I guess I’ll just have to keep on searching!

Next up, if I can get over to the Fresh Market (about an hour away), is Counter Culture, one of the top tens according to Food and Wine magazine.

COFFEE!! For my book giveaway this month, I’m asking people to tell what they think about coffee! You’re welcome to stop by and leave a comment, letting me know your thoughts about coffee. You don’t have to enter the drawing if you don’t want to, you can just state why you like coffee and say you don’t want to be in the drawing…or you can enter! It’s up to you! I love coffee. I drink it every morning! Can’t get started without it!
